In August, the International Code Council published the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Once a new version of the IECC is published, the Department of Energy (DOE) is required by the Energy Conservation and Production Act to certify the code to determine whether the updated version will improve energy efficiency for new homes.

Once the DOE makes its determinations on the 2024 ICEE, the EPA can move rapidly to develop a new version of ENERGY STAR and states can implement new versions of the code. DOE is at the top of a chain of reactions to take place that will lead to greater energy savings and more GHG reductions to more homes across the country.

The Institute for the Building Envelope strongly encourages DOE to move quickly to issue a determination on the 2024 IECC.
