The Hunters Point neighborhood in Cortez, Florida is made up of 34 homes, soon to be 52, all built with innovative building materials, such as spray foam insulation, that will help these homes stand up against even the most extreme weather events – including hurricanes – according to reporting from Fox 13 News.
“Hunters Point has everything you’d want in a mobile home,” said Marshall Gobuty, Founder and President of Pearl Homes, a company which aims to construct homes that are both energy efficient and more resilient to extreme weather conditions. Back in 2021, Pearl Homes praised spray foam insulation “over other insulating materials for its air sealing, durability and insulating value per inch,” as Gobuty has led the initiative to build homes that are “not just sustainable, but resilient.”
The homes are insulated with six inches of spray foam, which helps insulate and protect the home. “All the seams are taped so there is no way for water to get into the house. There is cement, ZIP panel and the foam insulation gives this home the strength that no other home has,” said Gobuty.
Over the last few years, Florida legislators have passed laws that incentivize homeowners to build with resiliency in mind. HB 799, which passed last year, requires insurance companies to provide premium reductions for homes with uplift prevention solutions, and earlier this year, HB 267 was signed into law, promoting the construction of unvented attics.
Homeowners, particularly those in hurricane-vulnerable areas, looking to strengthen the overall structure of their home, ensure overall comfort, and reduce their utility costs, should look to spray foam insulation as a vital building material to help your home weather the storm.
