NorthJersey.com: Why One NJ Couple Chose Spray Foam Insulation for their Home

For Gregg and Alicia Carbone of Ramsey, New Jersey, choosing spray foam over other traditional types of insulation for their home’s remodel was “a no brainer,” according to reporting from NorthJersey.com.

“Insulation is one of those things that you don’t think about at all, or at least something I didn’t think about,” said Gregg Carbone. Although insulation is hidden away behind your walls, it plays a pivotal role in the function of the overall comfort of your home.

When compared to fiberglass and cellulose, the article notes that spray foam insulation is “the most effective” at not only insulating but air sealing your home, ensuring that air leaks are kept to a minimum, which increases energy efficiency and decreases energy consumption.

“Spray foam insulation tightens the home. It makes it more efficient. It makes it have less air flow going through it, which means that the cold of the winter doesn’t come in and the heat doesn’t leave, and vice versa in the summer time,” said Howard Falkow, owner of Metro NY Insulation.

The Carbones chose spray foam, not only for its superior performance, but because the energy savings realized over time “would literally pay for the difference,” adding that choosing spray foam “was kind of a no brainer.”

Marc Corrado, owner of Insulation Pro NY, professionally installed the spray foam in the Carbone’s home. He advocates for spray foam insulation for his customers, adding that the average homeowner with spray foam insulation typically saves between 30% to 50% on their energy bills monthly.

“My main three bullet points for why to choose spray foam insulation are comfort, better air quality and lower energy bills,” said Corrado. “When you spray foam a house, you’re going to make that house completely airtight to the outside. If you do an airtight envelope with spray foam insulation and then you use upgraded heat pumps and ERV systems, which is a fresh air exchange, you’re going to have continuous fresh air flowing through your house. You’re going to have an extremely efficient heating and cooling system that keeps your house at a certain temperature and keeps your energy bills down.”

For New Jersey homeowners interested in spray foam for their home, Corrado notes that the state’s Uniform Construction Code requires homes to undergo a framing inspection prior to installation, as well as an inspection once the insulation is installed.

Time and time again, spray foam stands above other types of home insulation in delivering on increased comfort and energy efficiency.
