South Carolina Home Contractor Discusses Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation for Reducing Attic Temperatures

With May being National Home Improvement Month, Carolina AM welcomed brothers Matt and Jeff Thompson with Klaus Roofing by Carolina Energy Conservation to discuss how their expert attic and roofing services create safer, more efficient homes.

A business that started in a garage 15 years ago, Carolina Energy Conversation take a holistic approach to help customers realize their home’s energy efficiency potential, helping homeowners strengthen their home’s building envelope by providing solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, make homes more comfortable, and reduce energy bills.

Klaus Roofing discusses how they bring insulation and roofing together under one contractor, making the home improvement process more streamline.

For homeowners looking to cool their home and lower energy bills, Klaus Roofing will install what is known as an unvented attic, which is created by using air impermeable insulation, like spray foam insulation, on the underside of the roof deck to seal the attic. For homes with their heating, ventilating, and air conditioning HVAC systems in the attic, this is the “best thing to do,” according to the brothers. By doing this, it brings any ductwork or HVAC systems inside “conditioned space,” dropping the attic temperature “by well over 20, 30 degrees,” which reduces stress on your HVAC system, helping it last longer.

Unlike traditional insulation methods, spray foam creates a seamless, airtight, water-resistant barrier that effectively seals the attic space and minimizes the risk of conditioned air escaping.

An unvented attic utilizing spray foam insulation is one way homeowners can stay cool this summer, maximize energy efficiency, and reduce energy costs.
